The Uninvited
Songs and Voices of Exile
- Devised and performed by Elizabeth Mansfield
- Setting and clothes by Richard Aylwin
- Lighting by Neil Fulcher
The Uninvited is a performance tour de force telling the extraordinary stories of refugees and exiles, from all over the world, past and present. Poems, writings and testimonies flow into songs Spanish, Filipino, Farsi, Bosnian sung both in original language and in English translation.
Premiered in the USA in 2002, The Uninvited has since toured to many places in the UK, celebrating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, through the words and music, the humour and courage, of those forced to flee their homes and make a new life in foreign lands.
A post show, panel-led discussion is offered after each performance. Past participants have included: Amnesty International, Assist, Asylum Welcome, Crisis UK, Exiled Writers Ink, The Refugee Council, Refugee Action, Salusbury World Project and many other organisations and individuals working to support refugees and asylum seekers, in the UK.
The Uninvited is also offered to schools and colleges, alongside practical workshops on 'The Theatre of Bertolt Brecht'.
Spelthorne Borough Council has supported this production.
Please see education for full details of the workshops.
